We're losing weight to benefit Glendale Healthy Kids!!
You may have heard that Ardy revealed that he would commit himself to losing weight.
And that he would gladly pay $10/lb for each pound he loses.
Why?
Well, one reason is he really wants to lose the extra pounds and making a public
commitment kind of "forces" you to make good on your promise.
The other, a deeper, more poignant reason is that he realized that in being a part of a group
that promotes good health, he needed to show that commitment in his own life, and really "put his belly where his mouth is."
I was touched by that revelation, but more importantly got a smack right upside my head
that I needed to adopt that position, too. Being a part of Glendale Healthy Kids, we need to
be aware of the example we set, and "walk our talk."
Competition Talks, Too
That's why Ardy and I are having a congenial "competition" to lose weight. Not only to
help ourselves and show others our commitment to good health and a healthy lifestyle,
but also to help raise money for Glendale Healthy Kids, so we can continue to teach
the children and parents in our community the importance of proper nutrition and weight
control.

Shocking Statistics About Children
In my year-end appeal letter, I quoted the statistic that "given the current trends, one out of three,
yes 1 out of 3, children born in 2000 will develop diabetes."
Shocked the heck out of me! And also, 4 of those 5 chldren will be overweight, AND diabetes has 10 chronic
diseases associated with it. How important is education to help control this disease?
Imagine a country where 1/3 of the people have so many health problems from one disease.
Problems that are completely, or mostly completely, curable through lifestyle habits.
Can we continue this trend?
I don't think we can.
So, let's get together and continue to help educate our community about proper healthcare,
proper nutrition and proper lifestyle habits. Remember, we're looking to create a community where
all children have optimal health.
Follow our progress by going to www.LosingItForTheKids.org. Please sign up as a member and let's
show how committed we are to our community, our nation, our world.
Could you use a change, too?
Maybe you'd like to take this chance to commit to a more healthy lifestyle, too. If you're
already "walking your talk," maybe you could promise a small (or large, like the boys doing this competition)
donation in support of our efforts?
And, let your friends and family know about our "contest" so they can decide if this effort
touches them, too (you can forward this e-mail to anyone you want).
What would a competition be without an extra incentive?
Oh, and to add to the spirit of the competition, we have set an initial deadline of April 18th
to lose the 30 lbs. And the smallest "loser" will pay an additional $10/lb for the difference
between the two.
Don't worry, though. We are committed to responsible weight loss (2 lbs per week) and have
some experts helping us to make some major lifestyle changes.
Healthy Weight Loss and Permanent Lifestyle Changes Are The KEY
Elaine and Narina of All About You Wellness Bootcamp (www.aaybootcamp.com) have volunteered
to sponsor Ardy and me during this competition. And I can't thank them enough for the work they
have done and will be doing.
