As we begin planning for our Annual Celebration of Appreciation (June 26 at Glendale Adventist Hospital and Medical Center) I get to review what has been happening since last June. Even though our year doesn't end until June 30, our referrals already match totals for all of last year. The cost of medical insurance keeps increasing, and many families just cannot add this into their budget. How fortunate we in Glendale are that the hospitals, school district and city sat down that day in 1992 to address the issue of children needing healthcare! Thanks to their planning, and your continued generosity, Glendale Healthy Kids can continue our mission: to provide access to healthcare for low-income, under insured children;and offer preventative health education to the community:
-
Lilit provided dental education through the "Tots 'N Teeth" program to 300 Headstart students and parents. And yes, GHK is now providing oral health services for several of those children.
- Through the Give Kids A Smile Day Program, a number of dentists are also providing services for children who had never been to a dentist and just came for the free cleaning.
- A child refusing to attend school was referred for mental health counseling.
- A grossly overweight elementary student and the family were provided nutrition counseling.
- A child was provided an arm brace after an accident on a playground.
Each story may be different, as you see in the samples above, but the services continue to restore children to good health!
And thanks to the recently completed Ruth Charles Challenge, establishing an endowment, Glendale Healthy Kids will be able to continue our services into the future.
If you'd like the opportunity to impact a child's life now, visit the "How You Can Help" page on this website.
If you would like to be a part of our future, visit that same page, and let us know that you would like to designate your gift for our endowment.
Healthy kids are better able to learn, grow up to be a healthy workforce, and make a healthy community.
Wherever they go, they will remember the generous folks of our community who made them healthy!
Thanks to all for making it happen here!
